What is Thai Yoga Massage?

August 18, 2011

Have you ever wondered what the modality "Thai Yoga Massage" is? The roots of Thai Yoga Massage stem from India and Thailand and incorporate yoga postures, rhythmic motion, palpation, gentle stretching and breathwork. It is performed on the floor in loose comfortable clothing. Thai Yoga is a dynamic form of therapeutic massage which involves the practitioner moving with the client into a series of postures and stretches. As the practitioner moves with the client into different postures, the practitioner gently manipulates the soft tissues of the body to obtain the desired outcome.

Although Thai Yoga Massage does require concentration and practice, it is easy to learn and techniques can be incorporated into any massage routine. The theoretical roots of Thai Yoga Massage derive from the philosophy that all forms of life in the universe are animated by an essential life force. This silent energy is present in all life. Obstruction of this energy flow may result in mental, physical and spiritual imbalances. These imbalances can be manifested in the body in the form of disease, pain, discomfort or emotional problems. Thai Yoga Massage aims to free the body of any energy obstructions and balance the free flowing energy in the body.
